109th anniversary of the birth of Mother Teresa
Today marks the 109th anniversary of the birth of Mother Teresa, one of the 20th Century’s greatest humanitarians. Born in an Albanian Catholic family to father Nikola and mother Drana Bojaxhiu, she spent the first 18 years of her life living in Skopje, the rest of her life she spent in India. In her lifetime she received more than 600 awards, the most important is the Nobel Peace Prize which she received in Oslo in 1979. She died at the age of 87 in 1997 in India. In 1999 the diocesan phase of the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Mother Teresa begins. In 2003 she is declared Blessed and in 2016 she is declared a Saint. Today she is Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
